New Year, New You? What Are You Planning To Give The World In 2017?

Last year around this time, I wrote about being a gift to others. Marie Forleo, one of my sources of inspiration when it comes to content creation, always says “the world needs that special gift that only you have.” What are you planning to give the world in 2017?

2016 has continued the trend of me going further outside of my comfort zone to share knowledge and experience. I will never consider myself a public speaker or someone who needs to be on camera. However, in 2016, I presented multiple workshops on design & media in Oklahoma, New York, and Texas and started a weekly web series. I’ve worked on some awesome projects and put out a lot of design content through my social media channels. I put myself out there this year and attracted new eyes to the work I do. I hope I have encouraged others to step out and create themselves.

As Publications Manager at the National Headquarters of Kappa Kappa Psi & Tau Beta Sigma, I’ve learned that my opinion and expertise are valued as much as the designs I create. I’ve taken myself more seriously this year than I ever have. Greatness occurs when the fear of failure and the anxiety of starting are overcome by the desire for the goal. The goal being to share your light and give others inspiration, encouragement, and assistance. You should want to make the world a better place my pouring into the development of others’ noble creative pursuits.

When planning your 2017, make sure you first take the focus off of yourself. What are the strengths of your skillset that will provide the most for others? In that answer, you will find your purpose. In that answer, you will find the most opportunities to achieve and thrive. This will also allow you focus on what’s actually important and put things in their proper perspective.

Teach as you learn. Serve. Give. Cooperate. Shine.

Believe more in your dreams and less in your nightmares. Belief, however, is demonstrated through your action and not your words. Take steps toward building that blog, designing that app, writing that book, creating that show, starting that business, investing in yourself! Move forward in a way that lets 2017 know, in no uncertain terms, that you are not playing any games – unless you are a professional gamer, of course.
